ESTATE COFFEE CO

San Antonio, TX | 305 SF

Design: Studio Lingo

When Studio Lingo was approached by the 80|20 Foundation and Estate Coffee to design a new pavilion on a busy pedestrian corner in Legacy Park to serve as walk-up coffee bar, park information hub, and dedicated event storage, it presented a unique challenge. An open and inviting structure preserving minimally obscured views of the park was paramount, with security and resistance to nighttime downtown vandalism a must.

The building maintains a conservative footprint while the vast roof overhang reaches out into the park creating outdoor gathering space as it appears to virtually float above a wraparound clerestory. Top-hung steel actuated panels provide the ability to lock down the pedestrian level during non-operational hours and double as awnings throughout the day. Sliding servery windows open up to the intersection at E Houston + N Main and Legacy Park to the north and east, while a westward facing panoramic window provides patrons with a framed backdrop of the park and Frost Tower.
